Chia Prez

I was getting a haircut yesterday, and my barber told me about the new Chia Obama that Joseph Enterprises, the manufacturers of Chia Pets, has recently released. At first, I thought this was some kind of joke. So when I got home I looked this up, and lo and behold, my barber was right!
Chia Prez
This is one of those moments in my life when I'm not sure whether I should laugh or weep in unmitigated fear. On the one hand, I think that this is a fun, albeit kitschy, way of celebrating our new president. On the other hand, I'm rather disturbed by the chia 'fro he's growing. Perhaps this is what is fueling the underlying, but not so subtle, racial animosity of people such as representative Joe Wilson, Glenn Beck, and Fat Ass Limbaugh.

As if the reality of a Chia Obama head isn't disturbing enough, here's a commercial advertising the product:
And remember, folks: you can get your Chia Obama in one of two expressions, the "Happy" or the "Determined" look!

This was released during the election and sold at Walgreens and other stores for about a week until some *republicans* asked for it to be removed. Get over it, 70% approved of BO in January and now it is less than 50%. 20% of America did not suddenly become racist. We do not like the policies of the Democrat party, no matter the color of any skin.

Hmmmm....well, first, Cathy, your statistical information is a tad off. Second, who is the "we" you refer to? And third...can you REALLY state, with a completely straight face and honest conscience, that race has nothing to do with the rabid anti-Obama animosity we've been witnessing over the past several months?

Perhaps the only thing some need to "get over" is a sense of denial.

I am a registered Democrat and voted for him. This BS of not having any system, to verify who is a citizen when applying for health insurance, the bits and piece of raising taxes on consumption(cigarettes, fuel, now sugared soda) does affect people in my income bracket (less then $250K). I participated in the local TEA (taxed enough already) parties in my town. This was *not* what I voted for. I did not care if it was a man or woman, Black or White, Red or Yellow. I voted for change and not the same old Liberal 'Democrat' BS I got from Clinton.

Okay, okay. I understand your points, Cathy. We may disagree on our cultural/political readings of President Obama. But hey, this is The Gallery of the Absurd. We're all here for a chuckle or two, right? What better way to exercise our civic duty than to laugh at, mock, and satirize the culture in which we're all enmeshed.
